The Saleen S7 is considered by some to be the original true US production supercar (certified). The car was first seen at the Moenterey Races, packing 550 horsepower in the engine bay. Later though (2005) the S7 Twin Turbo took over having a more powerful twin-turbo engine that meant a powerful 750 horsepower, and raised the top speed to an estimated 250 Miles Per Hour (402 Kilometers Per Hour).

Forbes have this car rated as number one and we agree with them, its also one of America's most expensive cars so unfortunately unless you are a millionaire it is unlikely that you will get the chance to own one. With a price tag of just over 567,000 US dollars this is truly a car for the elite.

The Saleen S7R holds the fastest lap records (in its class) for the Monza Raceway.

Initially back in 2002 when it originally went on sale the S7 was the only car packing more than 500 horsepower that was street-legal in the US. Numerous magazines have recognized this vehicle as the fastest car (production) in the world, reinforcing what we already thought. (wiki)

Worlds Fastest Cars - Second Spot - Koenigsegg CCR

Koenigsegg CCR (2004 - present) The Koenigsegg CCR is a supercar and automobile manufactured by Koenigsegg. Designed and manufactured in Ängelholm, Sweden, it was first displayed at the 2004 Auto Show in Geneva. For a short time it held the World Speed record for a production vehicle

Based on the Koenigsegg CC8S the CCR features more power and much higher performance. The improved-power engine of the prototype was made feasible by the utilization of a Lysholm twin-screw (supercharger) and a new titanium exhaust system. This brought the power output up to a maximum of 806 hp at 6,900 revs per minute. Torque is also evenly distributed and peaks at 920 N·m (678 ft·lbf) at 5,700 revs per minute. This car was the very first production car to sport a horsepower gauge - it has now been joined by the Bugatti Veyron.

242+ MPH

However, this supercharger is not actually used in production cars. The CCR (production model)is equipped with dual centrifugal compressors which are built by Rotrex instead. It provides the same output, but the peak torque point is lowered from 5,700 to 5,400 rpm.

On the exterior the CCR looks very similar to the CC8S, but it does additionally feature a new side air-intake design, as well as a tweaked headlight arrangement, plus a revised rear-end, bigger brakes, more power and new front splitters for optimized downforce. The CCR is a two-seat coupe (Like the CC8S) with a mid-engine, featuring large, high-tech dihedral synchro-helix actuation doors that open by rotating forward and up.

The stated base price for the CCR comes in at a staggering US $590,000! (wiki)
